MRSM principal Che Azid Ahmad said, for a start, the offer was confined to Form 1 and Form 4 students and the majority of them were from Sarawak.
He said that some students who could not register yesterday had informed the college that they would arrive late because of transport problems.
“The registration process went smoothly and all of them came in time. I thank them and their parents for the cooperation they rendered,” he said.
Meanwhile, Form 1 student Patrick Peter, 13, from Rumah Diana, Sungai Ilas, Igan, was happy to be accepted by MRSM.
“I am happy for the opportunity,” said the former student of SK Sungai Ilas who obtained 5As in UPSR last year. He is the eldest among three siblings.
He was accompanied by his parents and a sibling, who travelled by boat from their home to Sungai Kut in Dalat and proceeded to Mukah by a commercial vehicle.
Patrick’s father Peter Ganya, 40, was happy for his son.
“As a father, I am certainly happy to see my son who got 5As being offered to study at MRSM Mukah. I am happier to see him here than in Betong, which is further from Igan,” said Peter who is self-employed.
Mukah MRSM was completed last year at a cost of RM48mil.
It is the third MRSM in Sarawak after those in Betong and Kuching.
