THE Government’s proposal to lower the formal schooling age to five should be welcomed by all. Some may think that children would find it stressful, but that is not the case if they are taught in creative and fun ways.

Children are able to absorb and learn things quickly. Education is not just reading and writing.

Exposure to arts and crafts, music and language will all enhance a child’s cognitive skills and development. Other useful tools for learning include building blocks and puzzles.

Early school entry is not about putting pressure on kids to learn. It is about teaching them all kinds of skills in ways that are fun and developing their innate talents.
