ALOR STAR: A Form One student of a prominent boarding school here ruptured the eardrum of his right ear after he was allegedly assaulted by five senior students in the dormitory last Thursday.
The 13-year-old victim claimed he was asleep with 50 others when the bullies, all in Form Five, barged into their dormitory in the 2.15am incident.
“They had also brought along 30 Form Two and Form Three boarders into our dormitory.
“One of them directed us to do 250 squats before they started asking us to own up to any wrongdoings that we could have done over the past week,” Mohamad Hazim Mohamad Zaid said at his grandparents’ house in Kampung Kubang Teduh in Gunung Keriang near here yesterday.
The teenager, the second of three siblings, said he was slapped twice in the face by different seniors after he admitted to having failed to make his bed before leaving for preparatory class on Wednesday.
“Some 30 others, who owned up to their mistakes, were also slapped and flicked on the face and forehead respectively.
“The seniors threatened to beat us up if we reported the assault to anyone, including our parents and wardens.”
Two days later, Hazim’s parents took him to a clinic after he complained of dizziness and prickly pain in the right ear.
He later revealed he and 79 other students were assaulted by their seniors after the doctor said his injuries were due to physical abuse or a bad fall.
“The doctor told me and my parents that I would have to undergo surgery if my eardrum does not heal within a month.”
Hazim’s mother, Nor Hapizah Puteh, 39, fearing for her son’s safety, lodged a report at the Kota Setar district police headquarters the same day.
She said her son had always come home with bumps and bruises all over his body but he would only say that he got them from rugby practice.
“Now we know the truth and I want the school to take action against the bullies.”
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzaman Mohd confirmed receiving a report on the incident.
However, the school principal could not be contacted.
State Education Department director Mansor Lat said he was not aware of the alleged assault.
“This is a very serious allegation and I will look into it.”
