PADANG SERAI: The success of two students from a secondary school, here, in an international-level contest on the environment, has boosted the nation’s image, especially residents in Kulim/Bandar Baharu.

R. Sri Ahrivesh and S.M. Ramamurthi, both 14, won the bronze medal at the Genius Olympiad Global Enviroment Innovation 2012 held in Oswega College, New York University, from June 24 to 30.

Their entry in the “Interior Environment Design” category titled Neighbours’ Wonders was an alarm system.

A total of 700 participants worldwide took part in the competition.

“If thieves were to enter a house, a resident would press his alarm button to trigger his neighbours’ alarms while his own will stay silent.

“Alerted, the neighbours will act so the thieves are nabbed,” Ramamurthi said when met at home, here, yesterday. Bernama
