KUCHING: SMK Muara Tuang launched its Independence Month with a longest essay writing project.

The inaugural event, organised in conjunction with the nation’s 55th Independence Day, was officiated by principal Mohd Bedrie Ali Akebar.

The project involved the Upper Six students of the school, who number 55, a figure seen as most meaningful as it coincided with the celebration.

The project was spearheaded by the school’s Form Six Bahasa Malaysia panel head Dayang Saptuyah Awang Junaidi and assisted by Hamimah Chula and Mohammad Brahim.

The main objectives of this project were to instil the spirit of patriotism and to inculcate a strong interest in reading and writing among the students, which eventually would mould them into creative and innovative beings.

The project was also aimed at producing loyal citizens capable of excelling in all their undertakings.

The essay entitled “Malaysia’s Proud Achievements. Malaysia Today!” was written in 35,750 words.
