THE dates for the final year exams for secondary schools have been fixed and schools and students are prepared for it.
However, the Perak Education Department insists the schools follow (a circular dated Dec 21, 2011) to hold their exams beginning Oct 29.
Having the exams at the eleventh hour will create a lot of problems.
The teachers will have to mark papers and go through the exam questions with the students, key in marks online and prepare their report cards plus collecting textbooks, etc.
Many teachers will be invigilating the SPM exams at the later date as suggested by the department.
Let the schools manage their internal exams accordingly.
All the hassle will effect SPM candidates who will be sitting their exam on Nov 5.
The schools should be given the freedom to carry out the final exam.
The department’s decision to have the exams on a later date might be to avoid students playing truant after the exams, but other aspects should be considered as mentioned before coming out with a directive for the schools to follow.
We, the headmasters, teachers and school administrations, urge the relevant authorities to reconsider their decision in changing secondary school final exams to a later date.
