The flood at SK Sungai Bong.
MIRI: Two primary schools in Tinjar, Baram have been forced to close after heavy rain over the weekend triggered flooding.
The closure of SK Kuala Bok affected 62 pupils and 12 teachers, while 122 pupils and 13 teachers were affected at SK Sungai Bong.
A statement from the Fire and Rescue Department said the ground floor of the two-storey block at SK Kuala Bok was flooded to a depth of one-and-a-half feet of water due to heavy rain since Sunday night until early yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that classrooms at SK Sungai Bong was also inundated by over one-and-a-half feet of water, while its compound was flooded to a depth of about three feet.
Both schools are located in low-lying areas, making them susceptible to flooding especially after continuous downpour.
